Mercedes Cebrián joined the department in 2013. She received her BA in Media Studies from Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and her MRes in Spanish Cultural Studies from Birkbeck, University of London. Prior to studying at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked as a literary translator for authors such as Alan Sillitoe, Miranda July and Georges Perec. She is also a published author of fiction, essays and poetry. She has been a writing fellow at Residencia de Estudiantes de Madrid, the Spanish Academy in Rome and Civitella Ranieri Center.
