Perelman Center for Political Science & Economics Auditorium
133 S. 36th Street

Malês, a soon-to-be-released movie out of Brazil, tells the story of the Malês Revolt, a slave revolt that took place in Salvador, Brazil, in 1835 led by Muslim people who had been enslaved in the Bight of Benin. It was the largest and most influential movement against slavery in Brazil, occurring in the country’s second-largest city. Although it was eventually crushed, its repercussions were significant.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with producer and director Antonio Pitanga and actress Camila Pitanga.
