Prof. Christina Baker (Temple University)

Thursday, December 1, 2022 - 4:00pm

Cherpack Seminar Room - WILL543

Join us for a conversation with Prof. Christina Baker on navigating the current highly compartmentalized academic job market while working in-between fields.  She will briefly introduce her research on theatre and performance by speaking about Lukas Avendaño’s performance Buscando a Bruno, a personal expression of grief that symbolically materializes the artist’s search for justice in the wake of his brother’s forced disappearance from Oaxaca’s Itsmo de Tehuantepec on May 10, 2018. Afterwards there’ll be an open conversation about how to identify appropriate academic journals and conferences for your work; how to build networks of scholars with a similar research agenda; how much of the dissertation can/should you publish; among many other topics.  Prof. Baker has kindly made available documents on academic publishing, cover letter writing, and job market timeline and interviews. If you’re interested, please email Prof. Jorge Téllez at jtellez@sas.upenn.edu for a copy.
