Bio

Sean is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he studied and worked in Madrid, Spain, before joining the Department as a Lecturer and now as a graduate student. His research interests include 20th and 21st century Spanish politics, history and culture intersect with food and consumption. He researches questions of how capitalism, modernity, power are (re)produced through the symbolic and literal rituals around the table. Of particular interest is investigating how gastropolitics can be simultaneously a tool to impose a singular national identity as well as its possibilities of dissidence.
