Astrid López Méndez grew up in Teotihuacan, Mexico. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Political Science at UNAM. Due to the Graduate School of Arts and Science Award and the Jumex Scholarship for Study Abroad, she obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing in Spanish at NYU, where she was also a Spanish instructor. Her book, Frontera Interior, co-published in 2020 by Alacraña Ediciones and UNAM, is a literary essay that delves into the concept of art and the artist in various works—both in literature and visual arts. She was selected for research and writing projects by institutions such as the Global Research Initiative at NYU Paris, the Montreal Writers’ House, and the Mexican Letters Foundation. As a researcher and editor, she has been involved in various literary projects since 2008, collaborating with publishers like El Colegio de México, Fondo de Cultura Económica, Sexto Piso, Ediciones de la Universidad Diego Portales, Éditions Gallimard, among others. In 2015, she co-founded Ediciones Antílope, an independent publishing house dedicated to contemporary literature from Hispanic America and in translation. Her research focuses on the production, translation and circulation of Mexican printed materials and material culture, spanning historical and contemporary contexts. Additionally, she explores Latin American art and literature, as well as colonialism. For more insights into her literary and editorial work, visit www.astridlopezmendez.com.
