Olga Guadalupe

Professor Olga Guadalupe received her Ph.D in Spanish Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. Her teaching and research areas include Spanish literature and culture of the Early Modern period, Modern and Contemporary literature, as well as Spanish poetry and film. She recently published a book on epistolary literature of the 19th century, Epistolaridad y Realismo (2016), and has authored several articles on the 19th-century nealist novel, 20th and 21st poetry, and film. She is also the author of four volumes of poetry: De amor tan solo (2007), La memoria donde ardía (2009), Insurrección del recuerdo (2011), Voces dispares (2014), and her poems have been published in many anthologies and literary reviews. She is the recipient of several poetry awards in Spain, among them Premio Voces Nuevas (2007), Premio de Poesía de Primavera de Vilafranca del Penedés (2007), and was a finalist for the Premio Loewe (2011).

Her recent research has focused on the proliferation of poetry prizes and anthologies in Spain and its impact on canon formation, and how contemporary poets of the “Generación del 50” dialogue with Spain’s Baroque and Neo-Baroque traditions. She is currently investigating the representations of educated women in the novels and letters of B.P. Galdós and other 19th-century realist novelists, and on the filmic interplay between Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar.

Before coming to Penn, Dr. Guadalupe has held academic appointments at Bucknell University, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, New York University in Madrid, and the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija in Madrid. She has been a lecturer at Penn since 2011 and has participated in the Penn-in-Madrid Summer Program, where she has taught language, culture, literature, and film courses.
