Lecturer in Foreign Languages

Professor Giménez received her doctorate from Temple University in September, 2007, with a specialization in Latin American Literature and a subspecialty in Peninsular literature. Her dissertation is an interdisciplinary study that focuses on conceptual relationships between narrative and visual arts through the presence of European visual artists in the novels of five contemporary authors from the Southern Cone and Caribbean areas of Latin America.

Her teaching experience, which dates back to 2000, combines a variety of language courses, including elementary, intermediate, and conversational Spanish. She’s also experienced at teaching interdisciplinary courses on the cultures and literatures of Spain and Latin America.

Her training and expertise in comparative thinking, culture, and history have shaped her foundation as a language instructor. At all levels of language instruction, her goal of building language proficiency is fully integrated with increasing intercultural competence. She believes that an intercultural perspective should be integrated in language instruction, and that it should start at the novice level of proficiency. Her approach to culture focuses on culture learning as a process and as experiential learning, providing learners the possibility of active engagement with another culture.
