Edwin B. Williams Prize 2021
Congratulations to the 2021 Edwin B Williams Prize in Hispanic Studies awardees: Thomas Maggiola (Winner) and Daniel Leva (Honorable Mention). The Edwin B Williams Prize in Hispanic Studies is awarded to senior majors who in the judgement of the faculty have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the field.

Congratulations to Natasha Chity-Guevara, winner of the 2021 Lina Ruiz y Ruiz Memorial Award. Congratulations also to Estelle Strangmark and Patrick Ward who received Honorable Mentions for the Lina Ruiz y Ruiz Memorial Award.

Ignacio Javier Lopez named Edwin B. and Leonore R. Williams Professor of Romance Languages
Ignacio Javier López is the Edwin B. and Leonore R. Williams Professor of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania. His research includes topics on Romanticism, the modern period, Surrealism (Prados, Larrea, Dalí and Buñuel), and Spanish Post-modernity.
Professor José Miguel Oviedo (1934-2019)
José Miguel Oviedo (1934-2019), Trustee Professor of Latin American literature in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Pennsylvania, died yesterday at his home in Philadelphia. A native of Lima, Perú, José Miguel Oviedo was a member of the famous Peruvian Generation of 1950. A world-known specialist on Latin American literature and culture, he did his primary education at the Colegio La Salle in Lima, where he shared a desk with Nobel Prize-winning novelist Mario Vargas Llosa.
